Urban Quiet

 Artist Statement

Painted on location en plein air in St Paul,MN.  This work captures a fleeting moment when light, water, and vegetation settle into quiet balance. The pond became both subject and collaborator—constantly shifting with breeze, reflection, and passing cloud. Rather than describing every detail, I focused on color relationships and movement: cool blues holding space for greens, warm notes of lily pads drifting across the surface like whispered interruptions.

The painting is about stillness without stagnation. Beneath the calm surface, life is active and layered, revealed through broken brushwork and softened edges. Working outdoors demanded quick decisions and trust in intuition, allowing the atmosphere of the place to guide the composition. What remains is not a literal record, but a sensory memory—light resting briefly on water before moving on. -KFox
