We spend our lives looking through windows, rarely noticing that they also reflect.

Washing windows became the inspiration when I saw my mother’s hand coming out my sleeve!  In this painting, an everyday act becomes a moment of revelation. As a daughter washes the glass, the reflection of her mother slowly emerges—not as a ghost or apparition, but as memory itself. The image is interrupted by soap, water, and light because remembrance is never precise. It is layered, fleeting, and discovered rather than seen.

Reflections do more than return our image. They invite us into conversation with those who came before us, quietly asking what their lives have made possible in our own.

The painting asks us to consider how those we love continue to shape our lives. Their presence lingers in familiar gestures, shared rituals, and ordinary moments that unexpectedly open a window between past and present.

Sometimes we are not simply looking through the glass.

Sometimes the glass is looking back. -KFox
